In need of advice.

So here's the story. So i'm browsing through the members of another gay forum i'm on and i see a profile pic of someone i vaguely recall seeing somewhere. So i click on the user and see he's located in the same general area as i am. So I think big deal i must have seen him in the street one day or something and I forget about it.
The next week i'm at school and in the hallway i pass a guy who i suddenly realise looks alot like the guy on the forum. So i return to the forum to check the guys pic out again and the ressemblance is striking.
The next day i learn the guy i saw in the hallway is in my year and is friends with some new friends i made in the past month. To cut a long story short, i've been staying with this guy by association (with the friends we have in common that is) however we barely talk and he barely looks at me, but i was surprised to hear he knew my name.
And even now i still don't know if they're the same person. It could all be a huge coincidence. I thought of asking the guy on the forum if he was the same person but his last post is a year or two old, so answers from him are slim. and i don't feel comfortable walking up to the guy at school and asking him straight out because we only know each other by sight.
What do you guys think I should do? should i ask him, wait for more evidence or do something else?

I suggest either messaging him on the board, or lead into a conversation with him by asking him if he ever posts on forums. If you are out and feel comfortable, you could talk about this place and how it has helped you.

well the forum doesn't show that info, so i can't do that and i'm not close enough yet to the guy at school to ask his email. Thx anyway for the suggestion i hadn't thought of that! when i'm closer to the guy i'll ask him for it then ask him about the site.
