I think we're both arguing the same thing, in a way, we're just both looking at it differently. It's a bit of a silly argument as well, and I'm not really in the mood to argue anymore (A few days ago I was quite annoyed at things that were going on in other places, so I was much more irritable) and so I really don't think it's worth arguing over anymore. Friends?

Hah, friends ^^
I wasn't really arguing, debating rather. I don't know why, but I think I'm addicted to debating my overly thought-out opinions.
Anyways, I do believe we were arguing the same thing. Heh...

I, for one, am not against it. I believe it is okay. If two people are in love, they should be allowed to marry whether they are gay, straight, bi, pan, whatever. They should be allowed to marry on their own will.

I'm all for Gay Marriage. To me, it doesn't matter if the couple are both guys or both girls. The only thing that matters is the love they have built together, both physically and emotionally. As long as they are prepared to commit to each other and be together as long as possible, then by jolly let them get married. If the government does NOT allow Gay marriages, than they should use more time to try and HELP gay people to come out and feel safer. A lot of people are closeted because of the world in itself. The world is so sexist, racial and homophobic, no one would want to come out of the closet. Who knows what people would do to them?! But here recently 50 million dollars was spent revamping the first American Church. That's fifty million dollars wasted on making a church look pretty, for people who claim to care about humanity. That money could have easily built thosands of homes or fed millions. But, no, they made a church look pretty.Dude! That is so retarded! The Government cared more about a freaking CHURCH then more homes and less hungry stomachs?! That's seriously fucking UNBELIEVABLE! What the hell?! That just makes me so FURIOUS to find out that people can be that selfish and IDIOTIC![ Excuse my language. it's just a HUGE outrage to find that out! >.< ]

I say that marriage should be recognized by the church and civil unions should be recognized by the government. Gays should be entitled to civil unions, and also for marriage in an accepting church if they are religious. Gay marriage should not be the issue, rather it should be gay civil union: should the union of a gay couple be recognized by the government? Religious folk can argue with their churches all they want on not allowing gay couples to be married in said churches, but they shouldn't interfere with the affairs of a gay couple in the legal system for the sake of their eternal souls.
There's my opinion in a nut shell.
And...a question: I understand your anger toward the government's waste of money, but what does that have to do with gay marriage? Seems to be an irrelevant bout of rage pent up from an entirely unrelated argument, but perhaps I missed something.

Yes, I do believe Churches should be given the right to deny gay marriages, but I don't believe the government should. That's a good point. Some Churches actually secretly marry gay couples, still because they took out the belief that homosexuality is a sin and want them to be happy with their life partner, if that hasn't already been said, that is.

I am a straight, and I believe in gay marriage. If you love someone, you should have the right to marry them. I also happen to be an atheist former Buddhist. I think that America was founded on freedom of religion, so why should the government tell you that only super conservative Christian ideals get to dictate who gets married when there are people with other religions in this country?

Well, in a way it wasn't Christianity that influenced it because God wants us to have that freedom. He also said hate the sin, not the sinner. I'm not sinning, and I'm a Christian, I just focus my viewpoints about homosexuality...well, I made a thread about it in the Homosexuality & Religion board. But yes, it was not Christianity, it just so happen we have a Christian, homophobic president. If we get a Democrat in office, gay marriages will be allowed.

Even if the person that i feel im going to be with forever is a man, i dont know if i could get married to him. I think gay marriage is fine, but whether or not i would do it is another matter.

I feel gay marriage should be legal, marriage does not have to be religious. civil marriages are legal for hetero couples and should be legal for homosexual couples. That should be up to each person to decide and the state should not be allowed to discriminate agianst its own citizens

Gay marriage is something that will be on debate probably forever just like abortion, it will go in schools just like the school uniform debate. People are people, no matter what their religion, sexuality, gender, or race, a gay person has feelings just like a straight person. Why do we think its so right to tell people who they can and cant be with, if we completely get rid of gay marriage whats next? They arent allowed to date? If we dont allow them to marry then a straight couple shouldnt be allowed to marry, would you rather have a happy gay couple get married or an unhappy straight couple?
So theres the argument of being gay is a "sin". Well condemning people for being gay is even worse! God said to love ALL people, gay/straight alike. If I go to hell for being with a person I love just because that person just so happens to be the same gender as me then I will gladly go to hell, at least I lived happy, and in the end isnt that what God wants for us all, for us all to be happy and be nice to eachother and to love eachother. People do not CHOOSE to be gay, people are BORN that way. If we really had the choice I dont think we would put up with ANY of the shit we put up with. So what if you think its gross for gays to be having sex, then dont think about it!
All im saying is why should we tell someone who they can and cant marry just because the church doesnt agree with it. The church is supposed to be seperate from state right? Marriage is a STATE decision NOT a CHURCH decision.

I couldn't agree more with you, Leesha. The church is seperated from the state, I know that and I'm Canadian. According to the church, being gay or otherwise homosexual is a sin, but I've often had the same argument to that as you: God's ultimate goal is for us to be happy, love one another and do His will. Yes, I know that part of His "will" is for us to marry and reproduce, but lots of people marry and don't have kids, and do they call that a sin? Lots of people don't even marry, and they don't condemn that either. As you said, people don't choose to be gay or les or bi or whatever. They're born with different interests from the majority, and if that's something to condemn us for then so be it, but you don't see me going around stoning others because they like different music than me. Besides, is it not in the bible that Jesus said, "let whoever has never sinned throw the first stone"? This is just one of the many things I think the church has gone off track from what God really wanted, but I'm getting off topic. Marriage is ultimately about the love the couple have built together, both physically and emotionally. As long as they are prepared to commit to each other and be together, then why shouldn't they be married? And so ends my rant.

In my opinion, this subject shouldn't even have to be debated! It shouldn't even be in the government systems! It's very simple; if you don't believe in same-sex marriage, then don't marry someone of the same sex! I don't think I'll ever really understand why homosexual marriage is illegal in so many places... I respect others' opinions, but that shouldn't affect everyone else from getting married!
In fact, my mom was watching this talk show the other day and they were discussing it, and one of the women on there said, "how am I supposed to explain to my child that two men are getting married?" What the hell?? THAT'S why you don't want to people who show love and devotion for each other to be happily married? Because you don't want to talk to your little brat kid for five seconds? That's not our problem! Yeah, how am I gonna talk to my kid? I don't like talking to me kid! You guys should stop your whole lifestyle, because I don't wanna talk to my kid! Stop being in love with each other so I don't have to explain it to my kid! What has this world come to.
