(Before I start, I'd like to say that this board is for suggestions too, so feel free to suggest things for the forum. The Dictionary: How would you guys feel if we set up a board and had the threads in alphabetical order instead of having the dictionary? This would mean you could post your own word and a good description of what the word means instead of having to wait, and then the staff cramming it into the thread. Please post your thoughts about this!

I guess I don't know exactly what you mean by this, James. You should elaborate.

I threw loads of words at him. Haha, I was thinking about it before this anyway. I guess I don't know exactly what you mean by this, James. You should elaborate. With the current dictionary [ Found Here] you have to add the word to the thread or send me a pm, and then have to wait for me to find out what the word means (if posted without description) and then for me to add it to the dictionary. If I were to add a sub-board we could have the threads alphabetised so all you need to do is post the word as the title of the thread and use the post space for the decription or the word, making the dictionary, automatic. Is that more clear for you now?

So that if people post words that other people don't know, they can go to the dicitonary and find out, instead of having to ask them or go off finding out on different sites.

I didn't know what pansexual meant 'till I read the dictionary! - I didn't even know there was such a term!

I didn't know what pansexual meant 'till I read the dictionary! - I didn't even know there was such a term! See, this is the problem. I still don't know the words that have been posted in the dictionary, let alone new one!

I don't have a problem doing this, but how do we know if the definition people post is correct? How will the threads stay in alphabetical order (I thought the default was by last post date)? Maybe there could be a sticky at the top with a link to all the threads.

Well I know a few terms relating to psychosexuality, but there are some words I'm not sure about. I would suggest that if people post deffinitions, they cite from Oxford or Wikipedia.

Maybe there could be a sticky at the top with a link to all the threads. You can now have boards in alphabetical order from A or from Z, by the thread starter, and many other ways. We could keep the dictionaty as the sticky of the board if we could keep it updated, but the main dictionary would be the board itself.

I disagree with this because you want to keep it alphabetical which, if what you want is to happen, will not stay in any sense, and we'll have no sense of organization within the board unless we do a lot of bumping at the end of each day in order to keep the threads alphabetical. I think that there should be a thread for the dictionary, and a thread to suggest new words and discuss new words. Or, if you still wanted the board, to have it for suggestions and then to have a stickied thread at the top for the Official HTalk Dictionary, to keep a little bit of order.

You can get code from Support that will alphabetize boards.

It's not even a code, it's part of the software. You can make it so you can have any board and the threads inside anyway you want. As there is much confusion over this, I'll create a test board and in no particular order make posts with the title A-Z. htalk.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=alphatest feel free to try it out, create new threads, new polls, reply to threads and have a look what happens! ;D (Post counts have been turned off.)
